Architecture has the power to shape far more than buildings.
Architecture shapes how we experience the world, how we connect with one another, and how we care for the places we inhabit. At Arcturus, we believe every project begins with a responsibility to listen first, to understand deeply, and to create architecture that belongs to its setting rather than competing with it.
The studio takes its name from Arcturus, known in Hawaiʻi as Hōkūleʻa, the Star of Gladness. For generations of Polynesian voyagers, Hōkūleʻa served as one of the great navigational stars of the Pacific. It is also the zenith star of Hawaiʻi, passing directly overhead at the islands’ latitude and providing navigators with a celestial confirmation that they had reached their destination. More than a point of orientation, Hōkūleʻa became a symbol of arrival, purpose, and belonging, a reminder that the journey is guided not by chance, but by intention.
That meaning defines our practice. Arcturus exists to provide clarity through complexity, guiding each project with thoughtful leadership, technical rigor, and enduring design. We measure success not by recognition, but by creating architecture that is timeless, deeply rooted in its place, and enriches the lives of those who experience it.
